HOW TO PREPARE YOUR CASE FOR REVIEW

When writing your statement, it’s important to think about what information will be most useful to the Independent Reviewer. In order to submit a strong, complete statement to make your case, consider the following suggestions.

Focus on the Feedback
While there may be other issues associated with the transaction, the Independent Reviewer is only able to review the feedback that was left. Your statement should begin with an explanation of why you think the feedback was or was not warranted.

Stick to the Facts
Details about when or where an event occurred is helpful to the Independent Reviewer. Include pertinent facts, such as the text of an email or item description, or the dates of contact between you and the other party. Avoid submitting comments about why you think something happened or speculating about events.

Keep it Clear and Concise
The Independent Reviewer will read your entire statement. To help the Reviewer understand the details, submit comments that are clear and complete, as well as brief and to the point. Don’t overload the statement with details that are not relevant to the feedback or extra material that might be confusing.

The Independent Reviewer uses four guidelines when deciding whether the feedback rating should be withdrawn. To make a stronger case, address these items in your statement:

  • Did the member leaving the feedback not demonstrate a good faith effort to complete the transaction?
  • Was the feedback not submitted in a reasonable timeframe? (30 days is usually an adequate period of time to allow for inspection or test drive)
  • Is there evidence that suggests the transaction-related information contained in the feedback comment is factually incorrect?
  • Did the member leaving feedback make an attempt to extract excessive value from the other party?

Submitting a factual, clear, and complete statement will help the Independent Reviewer make a well informed decision. The stronger your statement is, the better your chance that the Independent Reviewer will decide in your favor.
